We are inspired by Nelson Mandela’s compelling statement that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Our employees regularly volunteer at nearby schools—assisting with everything from maintenance to food supplies. This includes repairs and donations to Thuto ke Lesedi Day Care Centre and groceries for Alice Care Early Learning Centre.

Protea Chemicals has also partnered with Primestars and Thomas International to launch an initiative aimed at bridging the knowledge gap and providing high school students with career guidance. We offer Grade 8 to 12 learners (including our employees’ children) valuable insight into different careers and enable interaction with professionals. At least 500 students in Grade 9 will also get access to psychometric assessments, helping them choose appropriate Grade 10 subjects and make informed decisions for their future.

To date we have invested R400,000 into the project which will benefit schools in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Western Cape and Eastern Cape. While it is currently still in its fledgling stages, we are working hard to ensure the programme continues to grow and touch the lives of even more young South Africans.
